  17.        SASKATOON (CP) - A Saskatchewan farmer suspects a satanic cult
  18.      killed his horse and surgically removed its sex organs.
  19.  
  20.           Eugene Zagrodney, 38, of the Rose Valley area, said he
  21.         found the family's pet gelding lying in a field Wednesday about
  22.      60 metres from his farmhouse.
  23.  
  24.         It had an incision from the navel to the hind legs and
  25.      its sex organs were gone.
  26.  
  27.         "I suspected cults," he said Friday.  "I've talked to
  28.      somebody who knows about these cults and he said they probably
  29.  mistook it for a stallion and when they found out it had no
  30.  testicles it was abandoned.

  32.         "The wounds were perfectly clean, there was no jagged
  33.  edges," the farmer said.  "I used to work in a slaughterhouse
  34.  and I've done my own slaughtering, and it had to be a sharp
  35.  butcher knife or a scalpel."

  37.         Nick Nation, head of veterinary pathology for the Alberta
  38.     Agricultural Department, said coyotes are more likely to blame.

  40.         In a recently published article in the Canadian Veterinary"
  41.     Journal", Nation compared media reports of mysterious wounds on
  42.     mutilated cattle with those known to have been caused by scavengers
  43.  and finds them to be similar.
